General Health Advice

The NHS 111 service, free to call from landlines and mobiles, can provide much useful information.

Here are some basic pointers to reduce the risk of developing illness by following a healthy lifestyle..

Limit your Alcohol intake
Evidence suggests that alcohol in small quantities can be beneficial to health. However, exceding the internationally accepted safe limits, on a regular basis, it can have very serious harmful effect on your health. An accepted safe limit is 28 units a week for men and 21 units for women, a unit being approximately a glass of wine, half a pint of beer or a single measure of spirit, spread throughout the week and not consumed all at once.

Stop Smoking
Over 100,000 people die each year in the UK from smoking-related diseases.
Every cigarette you smoke can shorten your life by an average of five and a half minutes.

Watch your Weight and Diet
